Welcome

About the School

Welcome to the exciting and challenging world of science at the School of Natural and Physical Sciences (SNPS). Located at the Waigani campus, the School is central to UPNG's mission of preserving, refining, extending, and transmitting knowledge in an environment that fosters free inquiry and open scholarly debate for human development and national well-being.

The School trains scientists across a range of disciplines: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science and Geography, Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, and Physics — or combinations thereof. An important stream of our students enters medical undergraduate programs at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The School also operates the Motupore Island Research Centre, a multi-disciplinary research station located offshore near Tubusereia.

Science and associated technology underpin Papua New Guinea's sustainable national development. SNPS graduates positively contribute to PNG, the Pacific region, and globally across all levels of society — from resource industries, environmental management, and health sciences to government, education, and research.
