Terms of Use
The terms on which the University of Papua New Guinea makes this website available, and what we ask of you when you use it.
In force since
Accepting these terms
This website is published by the University of Papua New Guinea. By using it you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
Some parts of the site — the staff area, online payment, the student systems — carry their own terms as well. Where those differ from these, the specific terms apply to that service.
Information on this site
We take care to keep this site accurate and current, but it is a general information service, not a contract or an official record.
- Course, program and admission information describes what the University intends to offer. Programs, courses, timetables, staffing, delivery mode and campus arrangements may change, and a program may not run in a given year.
- Fees, dates and deadlines shown here are indicative. The figures and dates issued by the Bursary and the Academic and Student Administration Division are the ones that apply.
- Nothing on this site is an offer of admission, employment, a place, a scholarship or a grade. Those are made only in writing by the office that has authority to make them.
- Where this site differs from the University of Papua New Guinea Act, the University's statutes, or a policy approved by Council, the Act, statute or policy prevails.
If something here looks wrong, please tell us — and check with the relevant office before you act on it.
Availability
We aim to keep the site available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, suspend, move or withdraw any part of the site, including pages and whole sections, without notice. Links may break as content is reorganised; the site search, the A–Z directory and the sitemap are the fastest ways to find where something moved to.
How you may use this site
You may read, print and share pages of this site for your own study, research, teaching or general information, subject to the copyright terms.
You must not:
- use the site for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that breaches the Cybercrime Code Act 2016 or any other law of Papua New Guinea;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site, its server, its administration interface or any connected system, or to probe, scan or test its security;
- introduce a virus, worm, or other harmful code;
- interfere with the site's operation, or place a load on it that degrades service for others — including automated harvesting, scraping or bulk downloading;
- use the site's contact form, subscription or comment channels to send unsolicited advertising, spam or abusive material;
- impersonate another person, or misrepresent your association with the University;
- remove or obscure any copyright, trade mark or other proprietary notice.
Accounts and staff sign-in
The staff area is for current University staff, and sign-in is limited to University @upng.ac.pg Google accounts. You are responsible for what is done through your account, and you must not share your credentials or use someone else's. Access is granted for University business and may be withdrawn.
The University's ICT acceptable use policy applies to that access in full, alongside these terms. Tell the ICT Division immediately if you think your account has been used without your authority.
What you send us
When you send us a message, subscribe to the newsletter or otherwise submit material through this site, you confirm that what you send is accurate, is yours to send, and is not unlawful, misleading, abusive, defamatory or in breach of anyone's rights or confidence.
We handle personal information in your submission under our Privacy Policy. Where you send a suggestion, correction or comment about the site itself, you agree that we may act on it and use it to improve the site without owing you a payment or an acknowledgement.
We may decline to act on, and may delete, a submission that breaches these terms.
Links to and from this site
This site links to websites run by other organisations — government agencies, partner universities, funding bodies, service providers. Those sites are not under our control. A link is not an endorsement of the linked site's content, products or privacy practices, and we are not responsible for them.
You may link to this site from another website, provided you do not imply an association, sponsorship or endorsement that does not exist, and do not present our pages inside a frame or in a way that alters them. We may ask you to remove a link that breaches this.
Intellectual property
The content of this site is owned by the University or used under licence. What you may reproduce, and how to ask for permission for anything more, is set out on the Copyright and Intellectual Property page.
Liability
The site is provided on an “as is” basis. To the extent permitted by law, the University excludes all warranties, express or implied, as to the accuracy, completeness, currency or fitness for any purpose of the material on it.
To the extent permitted by law, the University is not liable for any loss or damage — including indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, or loss arising from a decision made in reliance on the site — suffered through use of, or inability to use, this site or any site linked from it. Nothing in these terms excludes a liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy forms part of these terms and explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it and what you can ask us to do with it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, and you submit to the jurisdiction of the courts of Papua New Guinea.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. The version in force is the one published here, with the date it took effect shown at the top of the page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
