Research Themes

Our staff and students conduct research across the natural and physical sciences, addressing questions central to resource management, conservation, and national well-being.

  • Biodiversity, ecology, and conservation biology
  • Marine science and coastal ecosystems
  • Chemistry and analytical science
  • Earth sciences, geology, and natural hazards
  • Mathematics, statistics, and computer science
  • Physics and environmental monitoring

Motupore Island Research Centre

The School operates the Motupore Island Research Centre, a multi-disciplinary research station located offshore near Tubusereia. The Centre supports marine and terrestrial fieldwork for staff, students, and visiting researchers.

Postgraduate Research

We supervise Masters and PhD candidates undertaking laboratory and field-based research. Partnerships with national and international institutions provide access to specialised equipment and collaborative opportunities.
