Science Foundation Year
Entry Requirements
The Science Foundation Year (SFY) is a foundation year programme, not a certificate qualification: one year of preparatory study that is the prerequisite for streaming into second-year studies in the science-based degrees, including Medicine and Health Sciences. Applicants must have successfully completed Grade 12 from a recognised institution and meet the following minimum requirements:
- A grade of B or better in Language & Literature or Applied English (one subject).
- A grade of A or better in Advanced Mathematics.
- A grade of B or better in all three of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Minimum GPA: 3.20, calculated across the subjects listed above (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0; subjects not taken are excluded from the calculation). Note that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission — places are limited and competition is strong.
NOSS selection formula (2025): (COUNT_B[LL,AE]=1)&(COUNT_A[AM]=1)&(COUNT_B[Ph,Ch,Bi]=3)&(GPA[LL,AE,AM,Ph,Ch,Bi]>=3.2)
