Physical Facilities Management

Physical Facilities Management

The Physical Facilities Management (PFM) department maintains and manages the University's built environment across the Waigani and Taurama campuses, including academic buildings, research facilities, and residential accommodation.

The Physical Facilities Management department is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and development of all physical infrastructure at UPNG. The department operates across both the Waigani and Taurama campuses, maintaining academic buildings, staff residences, student halls, research laboratories, and outdoor spaces.

Requesting a Service

All maintenance and facility requests are logged with the PFM works office, which triages each job by urgency and assigns it to the relevant section. Routine works are scheduled to minimise disruption to teaching, research, and campus life, while emergencies are attended to as a priority.

  1. Lodge a request. Staff and student-hall residents contact the PFM reception by phone, email, or in person, describing the fault and its exact location — building, room, and campus.
  2. Job assessment. The works office logs the job, assigns a priority, and allocates it to the appropriate section (Building & Maintenance, Electrical, Plumbing, Air Conditioning, and so on).
  3. Scheduling. Routine jobs are added to the maintenance programme; urgent jobs are dispatched immediately.
  4. Completion & sign-off. The assigned section carries out the work and reports completion back to the works office, which closes the job.

For faults outside office hours — such as power failures, burst pipes, or safety hazards — use the relevant line listed under Emergency Contacts below.
