Non-School Leavers & Professionals
Never finished Grade 12, or been out of the classroom for years? UPNG's non-school leaver pathway welcomes mature-age applicants and working professionals who are ready to pursue a degree through an alternative entry route.
Mature-Age Entry
Minimum Age
21 years or older at the start of the intended year of study
Work Experience
Minimum 3 years relevant full-time work experience recommended for RPL credit consideration
Entry Criteria
Applicants without a recent Grade 12 certificate may qualify for entry by sitting the Mature Age Entry Test, which assesses literacy and numeracy skills. A satisfactory result, combined with a statement of purpose and references, forms the basis of a conditional offer. Applicants with trade certificates, diplomas, or partial tertiary study may also apply directly using those qualifications.
Recognition of Prior Learning
UPNG recognises relevant workplace experience, professional certifications, and previously completed tertiary study through its Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. Approved RPL credit can reduce the number of courses required to complete your program. Applicants should submit position descriptions, employer references, and certified transcripts for assessment by the relevant school.
General Entry Requirements
- Applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the start of the intended year of study
- No Grade 12 certificate is required, but evidence of literacy and numeracy is assessed via the Mature Age Entry Test
- A written statement of purpose outlining career goals and reasons for returning to study
- Two references, at least one from a current or former employer
- Certified copies of any prior qualifications, trade certificates, or professional credentials
