Bachelor of Clinical Nursing (Midwifery)
Program Overview
The Bachelor of Clinical Nursing (Midwifery) is a post-registration degree for registered nurses pursuing specialisation in midwifery practice. The program develops advanced skills in antenatal care, labour and delivery management, postnatal care, and neonatal nursing — addressing Papua New Guinea's significant maternal and infant health needs.
Graduates are equipped to provide safe, skilled midwifery care in hospital maternity units, rural health centres, and community settings across PNG.
Entry Requirements
Applicants for the Bachelor of Clinical Nursing (Midwifery) must satisfy:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse in Papua New Guinea.
- A Diploma in General Nursing or equivalent nursing qualification.
- Relevant clinical experience in maternal and child health, obstetrics, or general nursing.
- Satisfaction of the University's admission requirements for post-registration nursing programs.
Career Opportunities
Midwifery graduates work in hospital maternity units, labour wards, antenatal clinics, and community health posts across Papua New Guinea, contributing directly to the improvement of maternal and infant health outcomes. Given PNG's high maternal mortality rates, skilled midwives are critically needed, and graduates are well-positioned for clinical, supervisory, and community midwifery roles.
